Ema Wednesdays have drawn to a close, with the cold weather and ever present exams we can only pray for the cold to be over soon so we can get back on the water in the b... e... a... utiful sun that we love so much in sunny South Africa.
We had some team participation a while back in both J22's and Formula One Class regattas. With bums on boats, boats on the water, light to strong wind and warmer weather than could have been expected, it turned out to be an awesome event. With the well known for their parties club, DAC, the evening and nights were well occupied with great food, flowing drinks and company from across SA! What a DAC attack event.
The next big and upcoming event belongs, by reputation, to the MSC regatta hosted by Point Yacht Club in Durbs Harbour. This event has been worth diarising for at least the past 5years that I know of, so lets bring that awesome spirit this year and put it as booked in your calendar (1-5 JULY 2012)!!!
I'm sure Wits will bring their party faces!

Boskop Get-away!
And what an away it was.
Starting with a bang on the Friday night and waking up to howling winds on the Saturday morning, one would have thought that the boats would be land bound. but with an awesome start, so comes the slow afternoon.
With Darts, Lasers and even windsurfers on the water there was much learning on everyone's part. The lack of wind didn't take away the ability of learning and that came in the form of up righting the boats after "force" capsizing.
We were definitely hanging on to the last days of, what could be considered as, summer.
The Saturday night left much to be remembered after the new sets of yellow overalls with team badges were passed around to the new members, and it's only the photos that could jog ones memory of the events. What happens at Boskop stays at Boskop, but not really. The blue paint seemed to follow some home (some need to wash a little more than others)....
The wind might have been nothing to boast about but the host definitely is. The food was delicious and there was plenty to go around while the facilities were clean and beautiful. It's on the cards for another visit.
Good job to the new members, you are now ranked as official Yacht Club members.
As for those who want to know more about what went down on the Saturday night, Why not try stopping by to an event sometime - after all, what's stopping you?

Upcoming
So not much news has been popping up from this side of events, but that's just because of slack on my side...
There is always something happening with or at WYC. It may seem dormant at times, but that is just a warning to give yourself time to get ready for the party that is to come.
AND it just so happens that the preparations are in line for a big weekend at one of our favourite and local sailing spots. Between the areas of Carletonville and Potchefstroom lies a quaint, at least when varsity students aren't camping out, dam and reserve called Boskop. Thank goodness the Yacht Club is a little further away from the reserve.
Over the 13-15April will be a weekend to remember as varsity students have been invited to take part in an awesome weekend away. Braais, drinks and maybe even a bit of sailing will be the agenda for a break in the term. Members are R30 and non members R50 (costs could change - so keep updated with FB)...
Otherwise the grapevine news is that our Emmarentia Wednesdays are turn outs are pretty decent when we have enough tow bars to go around, and our bar is always a hit whether it's two or fifty members with mates just chilling alongside the boat funnel with a few tunes.
So come on in and join us with our fun and chilled goings (The more the merrier)
But in Yacht Club terms of goodbye,
Just chill, it'll work out and we'll wing it when we next see it...

Meet & Greet

A somewhat successful evening!
New and old members gathered around the newly gathered yet still under repairs, Wits Yacht Club Clubhouse. What a sight to see: talking, braaing, drinking and laughs all round.
After introductions of stating names and claim to fames, there was a bit of a shock as to the initiation into the club. There were the unfortunate few who missed the ceremony due to a beautiful sunset held on a roof however they payed their dues later on with a chundalaka funnel. Not something anyone would choose if given the option.
Here's to hoping our new members are encouraged to come back after that event rather than being scared off to the next club (If you know yacht club, "you'll know who we're talking 'bout bru")... We do like to think of ourselves as a family, a tight knit group which sticks together through stormy weather and drunken times;-) and we're always happy to adopt new members into the family.

What a start to what is going to be an awesome year for the Wits Yacht Club.
Street party/Tennis court Party was a success in the eyes of, what we would definitely call the, beholders. We had new and old members pulling together to create what was seen as an epic night.
With girls and guys kitted up, or down, in their Mozam kit, we rocked out with our... & frocks out. The ladies and gents behind the bar kept us rolling with their great turnovers and speedy service with a smile. Then there were our specials: The ever so popular YACHT SHOT™ which brings a party wherever it goes as well as our newly initiated funnel (which was a definite boat show). The top time for a mansized can: 00:00:01:26 (yes, that is in seconds) held by C. Shafto.
There were times for the ladies, but with only 5 competing, I rate we're going to have to hold another event soon to build up a decent downing standard which to be proud of. So come on ladies, lets pull together a crowd and show these guys what we're made of.
I think it's safe to say WYC brought the party!

Round the Island 2012

Our first sailing weekend of the year turned out to be a party and a half. Not only is Round the Island, hosted by LDYC, the biggest inland regatta but it is an awesome party with any and every age participating as well as any and every class.
From 49ers to Simonis 35, mono and multihulls, Dinghies to Keelboats... It was enjoyed by all.
Wits took a substantial number of members down and they proved both their skill and partying ability through the weekend holding their own in their signifying yellow overalls.
It was definitely not the party to miss...
